How to Prevent Condensation Inside Your Pole Barn

Pole Barn builders in Kentucky

A new pole barn or garage hobby shop in Kentucky is a great way to help your small business grow or to take your favorite hobby to the next level. If you are interested in a new post-frame building, make sure you hire professional pole barn builders in Kentucky. One of the worst problems a pole barn can have is excessive moisture or condensation inside. A barn with a moisture problem is constantly wet inside, even when it hasn’t rained.

If you want to keep the inside of your barn dry, ensure you address these areas.

 #1 – Install Moisture Barrier

A vapor or moisture barrier should be installed under concrete floors, in the walls between insulation and siding, and on the roof underneath the sheet metal. The right vapor barrier will help keep water from seeping through your floor and from condensing inside your walls.

#2 – Maximize Ventilation

Condensation inside your post-frame building comes from moisture in the air. One of the most effective ways of reducing condensation is ensuring that air circulates through your barn instead of becoming trapped inside. We always recommend soffit vents and ridge vents or cupolas. If this is not enough to keep your barn well-ventilated, you may want to add mechanical exhaust fans or ceiling fans.

#3 – Insulate

Warm air inside your barn will often turn to condensation on the inside of cool uninsulated steel siding. With that in mind, interior insulation is generally very effective in reducing this phenomenon.

#4 – Maximize Drainage

If rainfall is not efficiently directed away from your barn, it will leave the soil around your barn moist. If you want to reduce moisture and condensation inside your barn, reduce the moisture around your barn that results from rainfall. Roof gutters, downspouts, and drainpipes are very effective at doing this.

#5 – Prepare Your Building Site the Right Way

Your barn should be built on top of dry fill material and elevated significantly from the surrounding terrain. Custom post frame builders in Kentucky can help you do this correctly.
